Inside the forbidden halls of government

So, I kind of had the impression that I wasn't supposed to have my camera in the main reading room of the Library of Congress, but I didn't know for sure . . .

This is the floor you can view on a tour but you can only enter if you're doing research. (Yeah, that's my finger. The rest of my hand is hiding the camera, you know, just in case.)

This is the top part. There are no books but lots of statues of people who used to be cool to the literati.

Eventually I sat down in the reading section, but my books were in a separate part of the library, so I took just a few more candid pictures of the dome.

This is what books see when I'm reading them.

I checked a sign on my way out just to make sure I shouldn't take pictures. And then, so I wouldn't forget about it next time, I took a picture of it.

Well, at least you didn't let anyone know you took the pictures! They are great! Can't wait to come and see them in person!
