hiking and haikus

new years day, my parents took robert and i out for a hike at silver falls state park, oregon. robert, being the teacher that he is, gave us an assignment to write haikus as we walked. i guess he thought we were having too much fun, or something.

together we came up with the following:

silver haired giant
has farther to fall than us
he should stop running

the roar of water
reminds me of highways
out of touch with nature

down in the canyon
a web of moss covered trees
catches me when dreaming

wide campers field
surrounded by fog and frost
UFO landing site?

silver haired giant succumbs
borrows lady norways hat
function over form

everything's rimmed in frost
halos on the holy which
we've come to worship

from our day at the oregon coast

jam

strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry jam (and we picked the blackberries ourselves!).
that's what you can make with a lot of berries, a lot of sugar, and a little bit o' love.

oregon coast

we went to pacific city, oregon with my family.
climbed the sand dune and ran back down, walked out on the rocks as far as the land would take us, flew a kite, played with anemone in a tidal pool, and ate at mo's.

pretty ideal, i'd say.

oregon scenery

these are a few pictures that i love to look at. they're from our trip home to oregon for the holiday.
ducks who were just moments before swimming in my parents flooded backyard. i like the way robert took this picture with the edge of the window creating the black in the corner.
wintery apple orchard. i took this picture one morning on the way home from e.z. orchards, where we bought doughnuts.
the view of downtown portland from pittock mansion. my sister emily took this picture.

happy new year

our new years party included playing Bang, eating a lot of popcorn, and making hats

who do voodoo, you do?

When in Oregon for Christmas, me, Robert and my dad stopped at the popular Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland. Because we're doughnut people.

mmm.. maple bacon, our favorite. they also have cereal on doughnuts, which is like having all the best things about breakfast in one bite.

When we were home for Christmas we showed this picture to my brother and his wife who had never seen it before. It's from their wedding. After the reception when all the guests were gone (and when the real party started) my family and I played with the extra sparklers.

you are my family tree

my brother sent over some pictures of is wedding. these are my favorites.
